How to Use Clomid for PCT (Post-Cycle Therapy)

Clomid is one of the most widely used compounds for post-cycle therapy (PCT) after anabolic steroid or prohormone cycles. The goal of PCT is to restart the HPG axis and restore endogenous testosterone production that was suppressed during the cycle.

Standard PCT protocol: Start Clomid 2 weeks after the last injection of a long-ester compound (e.g. testosterone enanthate) or 3 days after the last dose of a short-ester or oral compound. A common protocol is 50 mg/day for the first 2 weeks, then 25 mg/day for the next 2 weeks (4 weeks total).

Why Clomid works for PCT: During a steroid cycle, exogenous androgens suppress GnRH, LH, and FSH through negative feedback. When the exogenous androgens clear, the HPG axis needs to restart. Clomid blocks estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, forcing increased GnRH production, which raises LH and FSH, which stimulates the Leydig cells to resume testosterone production.

Blood work schedule: Baseline blood work before PCT starts. Repeat at 4 weeks (end of PCT) and again at 8 weeks (4 weeks post-PCT) to confirm recovery. Key markers: total testosterone, free testosterone, LH, FSH, estradiol, SHBG.

Combining with other SERMs: Some protocols combine Clomid with Nolvadex (tamoxifen) for PCT, using 25 mg Clomid + 20 mg Nolvadex daily. The rationale is that they act on slightly different estrogen receptor subtypes, though clinical evidence for combination superiority is limited.
